After three nights of test drives and haggling sessions, we are now the proud owners of a shiny black Ford Explorer XLT! Even though we had arranged our own credit union financing, the buying process took several hours. Tom is going to kill me for taking so much time off today-- it was only supposed to take an hour or so :-(

I try to get maximum value from my cars, driving them until they drive no more. Unfortunately, the van has reached this point. After having the steering lock up while driving, it's ready for the scrap heap. Hopefully I can convince the dealer to at least take it off my hands, or maybe even give me a few bucks if they're desperate for a deal.

Chris prefers the Ford Explorer/Mercury Mountaineer. She like the boxy stuff, and I can live with certain models. My problem with buying anything is that I have champagne tastes and a beer budget. While I'm notoriously cheap -- Chris can attest to the difficulty of prying the cash from my tight grip -- I do like quality products. I'm leaning toward the more upscale models, but am having trouble with the high prices.

We'll probably be shopping tonight, if we can get started early enough...
